Inform to Involve

Clearly communicate how they can connect with you other than on the website.Remind the visitor that even though they’ve signed out of the website, they can connect with you elsewhere.  Above all, provide clear calls to action with typography, buttons and colouration.

Mobile Redirection

Arguably, this strategy works best  if your website is either responsive or has a mobile/tablet platform to run on, but going beyond the design/development, it sends a clear message to members of an always-on culture – you can stay connected while on the move.  As smartphones become increasingly prolific and more public areas are offering free Wi-Fi, make it easier for people to access your website while they’re on the go by redirecting them on sign out.

Twitter’s sign out page sends a clear message ‘Now go mobile’ and uses coloured call to action buttons to make it simple to go mobile.  You can choose your device to find what system requirements are needed to go mobile or click ‘Download Now’ and have an email sent that will provide a link to download the app needed.

Twitter Sign Out page

All that’s missing is a QR code so visitors can just point, click & be redirected on their phone.

Social Redirection

Signing out of the website doesn’t mean they’re also signing out of their Facebook account, Twitter, etc.  so use the sign out page to redirect to another medium.   If you use social media to interact with visitors, promote it on the sign out page.   Most social media websites are responsive or developed for use on mobile platforms so take advantage of this & redirect your signed out visitor to follow you on Twitter, connect on Facebook etc.

Location Redirection

Have a physical shop front?  Tell the signed out visitor where they can find you in the real world on the sign out page.

Newsletter Redirection

Have a newsletter?  If the visitor isn’t already signed up, show a sign up boxon the sign out page so they can receive your updates & news directly to their inbox.
